CEDIA expands residential installer skills with Smart Home Assurance Programme

CEDIA has launched a new initiative designed to help residential installers tap into the growing new-build and multi-dwelling market.

The Smart Home Assurance Programme introduces a structured certification framework that ensures new homes are built with reliable, standards-based technology infrastructure.

With connected devices in homes forecast to increase dramatically by 2030, developers are increasingly looking for trusted specialists who can design, verify and support smart home systems from the outset.

“The CEDIA Smart Home Assurance scheme shows our purchasers that we’ve made best practice provision for what they’ll need in the future,” said a representative from property developer Auberry of London. “It makes it easy for us to get it right - without being at the mercy of a number of expensive, proprietary systems.”

CEDIA members have the exclusive opportunity to become CEDIA Smart Home Assessors, who will be paid for certifying homes under the programme.

This role enables installers to expand their offering in the form of testing, assessment and compliance services.

Beyond certification work, assessors are also well placed to secure follow-up business including system upgrades, troubleshooting and ongoing support for homeowners and property managers.

Industry research underlines the commercial potential: 63% of homeowners say they would prefer a CEDIA-certified professional to install their technology, while nearly half are more likely to choose a home accredited by CEDIA or a similar body.

To support the scheme, CEDIA has updated its Smart Home Infrastructure guidelines, available free to members.

Accreditation as an assessor requires CEDIA membership, CIT or IST certification and a valid CSCS or ECS card.

CEDIA is also offering dedicated assessor workshops in the UK to help members get started.
