An integration company has partnered with a homelessness charity to create a temporary cinema space in London, UK.
Surrey-based firm Equippd converted part of the Crisis charity’s Christmas Day Centre into a pop-up cinema, installing professional-grade audio and visual equipment alongside deck chair seating and refreshments.
The cinema operated throughout the centre’s Christmas opening period, hosting almost 15 film screenings over five days. Close to 300 guests attended, watching a mix of festive films and popular titles.
Equippd is best known for designing and installing high-end home technology and entertainment systems in private residential projects.
The cinema provided a dedicated space for film screenings during a period when the charity experiences high demand. Crisis’ Christmas programme runs annually and offers people experiencing homelessness access to meals, healthcare, wellbeing services and accommodation over the festive period.
Equippd founder Charlie McCourt said: “This is the second year we’ve partnered with Crisis, and it’s become one of the most meaningful things we do as a company.
“We spend our days creating high-end home entertainment experiences, but Christmas is an opportunity to step beyond our day-to-day work and think about how what we do can make a small but genuine difference.”
Francesca Albanese, executive director of policy and social change at Crisis, said the charity was grateful for Equippd’s support and noted that the Christmas centres aim to provide both practical assistance and opportunities for social connection.
The pop-up cinema formed one element of Crisis’s national Christmas response, which supports thousands of people across the UK during the holiday period.
