McIntosh has announced the MPC500 Power Controller, a high-performance protective mains controller, carefully designed to protect audio equipment.
A number of technologies has been used to minimise the risk of electrical irregularities damaging valuable audio equipment in the home. The device offers protection for ethernet devices in addition to power sockets.
Featuring cascaded surge protection, the MCP500 delivers full mode AC power line surge protection (for example, from a lightning strike), as well as protecting low voltage devices against secondary surges and spike that can occur after the event.
The MPC500 also has an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter of the AC line and over/under voltage protection. This will switch off the rear receptacles to keep connected devices safe from trying to operate at undesired voltage levels.
Depending on what country the device is being used in, it will either come with 8 Type B (NEMA 5015R) or 4 Type F (CEE 7/3 or ‘Schuko’) receptacles to ensure compatibility with local power systems. Users can control each receptacle by using the rear panel Power Control ports or through the set-up menus on the front panel.
The input voltage, the amount of current being drawn through the receptacles, and the total (apparent) power can be listed on the front panel display.
The MPC 500 is now available to order with authorised McIntosh dealers and shipping is expected to begin this month.
