Mini-LED technology, Google TV, QLED and 4K HDR TVs all unveiled by TCL at CES

TCL has revealed a range of new TVs and display technologies at this week’s digital CES, including the debut of its OD Zero Mini-LED technology and the launches of its Google TV, TCL 4K Mini-LED TV C825, TCL 4K QLED TV C725, and the TCL 4K HDR TV P725.

OD Zero technology

OD Zero is a technology that combines TCL’s latest generation Mini-LED backlight technology driven by its skilled in-house technology development and deployed with its powerful vertical integration to deliver an ultra-slim profile that, according to the company, has never been achieved with LED LCD TVs before.

The name ‘OD Zero’ represents the optical distance between the Mini-LED backlight layer and the LCD display layer (diffuser plate) which has been reduced to 0mm, creating an ultra-thin but high-performing backlight module with improved consistency of the brightness.

“We believe that Mini-LED technology will continue to shape the TV industry and by pioneering the use of this technology we, once again, elevating display quality,” commented Kevin Wang, CEO of TCL Industrial Holdings and TCL Electronics.

“After deploying previous versions of Mini-LED already, in 2020 we will launch the world’s first OD Zero Mini-LED TV as part of TCL’s endeavour to let people around the world ‘Experience More’.”

TCL’s OD Zero Mini-LED delivers a rich colour layer, more depth of details and more striking brightness. High uniformity is achieved by reducing the distance between the light source and the diffuser plate, which in turn is able to control the range of astigmatism, improves the contrast and minimises optical halo effect.

Improving the image performance, the thousand of local dimming zones allow the brightness to be adjusted in real-time alongside the corresponding backlight areas, delivering precise contrast control.

The rollout of TCL TVs that will feature OD Zero technology will be announced closer to its sales launch later this year.

Google TV

Also announced this week at CES 2021 is the rollout of TCL’s Google TV series which will start in the US and rollout across other parts of the world later in the year.

The Google TV series combines TCL’s latest display technologies, such as Mini-LED, 8K and QLED, with Google’s new entertainment experience to help customers discover and access more content.

Google TV is designed to organise movies, shows, live TV and more from apps and subscriptions into one platform. TCL Google TV users will also be offered personal recommendations to discover new content as well as being able to ask Google to find particular content or control their smart home devices.

4K Mini-LED TV C825

Another addition to TCL’s Mini-LED portfolio is the 4K Mini-LED TV C825, adopting straight down backlight mode reducing the grain size of traditional LED to 100 ~200 μm. Thousands of light control units are used to increase the number of backlight sources.

The C825 features Quantum Dot Display Technology, combining colour and light, higher gamut and more precise light controls to achieve high picture quality.

Dolby Vision HDR imaging technology and Dolby Vision IQ are also included on the C825, dynamically adjusting the picture to the changing light in the room and the types of content being watched to give the best picture possible.

Giving consumers greater entertainment options, the C825 includes IMAX Enhanced.

Ideal for gaming, the TV uses 120Hz MEMC and 120Hz low reverse display to make moving images smoother and video gaming more engaging. Additionally, a four-way HDMI 2.1 port, VRR, ALLM, eARC, Wi-Fi 6, and low input lag gives gamers faster, smoother graphics and better sound effects.

The magnetic split-type camera 4m pixel delivers high-quality visual and audio interactions for video calls.

TCL C725 4K QLED TV

The TCL C725 4K QLED TV also features Quantum Dot Display Technology with nearly 100% ultra-high colour gamut (DCI-P3) to deliver more vibrant and diverse colours.

Featuring Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos immersive audio as well as Onkyo, the C725’s AiPQ Engine switches on the full potential of TCL’s big-screen TVs with real-time optimisation for different entertainment or content genres.

Hands-Free Voice Control 2.0, Google Duo and unlimited content from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play & Movie, Disney+ and more are all featured on the C725 to give users a wealth of entertainment and content options.

Also supporting MEMC and HDMI 2.1, the TV delivers smooth images even in fast-moving scenes.

TCL 4K HDR TV P725

Featuring Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, the P725 delivers high-quality, detailed experiences, especially dynamic motion imageries and immersive audio.

Combining HDR with wide colour gamut capabilities, Dolby Vision delivers ultra-vivid picture quality with improved brightness, contrast, colour and detail.

Again, the MEMC motion picture processing delivers crisper and more stable imagery performance in fast-moving action scenes.

Also featuring TCL Hands-Free Voice Control 2.0 allows users to control the Tv without the remote control. Android TV OS also provides enhanced entertainment experiences.
