Onkyo receivers to work with Sonos and Alexa

Onkyo has announced that it has recently partnered with Sonos so that owners of Onkyo, Integra and Pioneer Elite receivers can stream their music via the Sonos app.

After officially securing the much sought-after ‘Works with Sonos’ stamp, Onkyo product owners will soon have more options when it comes to managing their music.

The manufacturer has also announced that they can add products to an existing Sonos setup as well if looking to deliver music across several rooms in the home.

The big announcement remains somewhat clandestine to date, as Onkyo hasn’t actually revealed which receivers people can stream to, but they did take the time to publicise that users will be able to control them with Alexa as well. Google Home support has been previously been announced of course, and like that collaboration, the integration will see limited Alexa controls added to the hardware of Amazon products.

Onkyo receiver owners will unfortunately have to hold their breath until Wednesday June 6 to find out if they’re one of the lucky ones when the firmware update is released – coincidentally, also the date of Sonos’ big home cinema product launch event.
