Sony announces availability of new A8 4K HDR OLED TV line

Sony has announced the European availability of its new A8 4K HDR OLED TVS, featuring an array of new Sony innovations in picture processing and sound.

Featuring the X1 Ultimate Picture Processor, it precisely analyses image data to bring out the intense contrast of OLED with pure blacks, peak brightness and realistic pictures. Pixel Contrast Booster is also used to enhance colour and contrast in bright areas so viewers can enjoy true-to-life scenes, more depth, fine texture and pure black contrast that only OLED can deliver.

Sony’s X-Motion Clarity technology is featured for the first time on an OLED TV, which ensures smooth and clear play of content, even through fast action scenes. Moving images are precisely controlled to minimise blur so that pictures remain true with less loss in brightness during high speed scenes.

Incorporating Acoustic Surface Audio with the A8 TVs delivers an immersive audio-visual experience, turning the screen into a speaker. An innovative actuator behind the screen vibrates discreetly to create sound so what the viewer hears comes from the place in the scene where the action is happening – dialogue from characters or engine noise from a car.

For extra punch, there are two subwoofers discreetly integrated into the rear of the TV to create more dynamic, bass-heavy sound, ideal for action movies or music.

From an aesthetics point of view, the A8 TVs feature Sony’s super-slim one slate design where the screen meets the edge of the TV, creating a more immersive viewing experience for the viewer.

With Netflix Calibrated Mode, viewers can enjoy Netflix originals that deliver the creator’s intent. It reproduces the same picture quality on the TV as on a studio evaluation master. With IMAX Enhanced as an additional feature, the A8 TVs have high-quality colour, contrast, clarity, and sound, creating a fully immersive at-home entertainment experience that takes full advantage of IMAX Enhanced content.

Sony’s A8 4K HDR OLED TVs feature Ambient Optimisation, a new technology that optimises picture and sound quality in any customer environment. It automatically adjusts the picture brightness to the ambient light in the room, boosting brightness in bright rooms and reducing in dark rooms.

It is also able to detect objects in the room, such as curtains and furniture that can absorb or reflect sound, fine-tuning the acoustics so the sound is not compromised.

The new line up features Android TV with the Google Assistant, Google Play Store and Chromecast built-in. This gives users easy access to content, services and devices via its extensive platform. Sony’s original user interface menus and voice controls have also been enhanced for better user experience.

Using Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa enabled devices, users can cast and control videos from a range of apps, such as Netflix or YouTube with Google Home or change the channel or volume with Amazon Alexa enabled devices. Apple AirPlay 2 users can stream movies, music, games and photos to their television from their iPhone, iPad or Mac.

Available in either 55- or 65-in, the KD55A8 is available for £1799, and the KD65A8 is available for £2799.
