Today, Sony has announced three new native 4K (4096 x 2160) home cinema projectors with SXRD panel for the consumer and custom installation channels.
The three new models consist of the VPL-VW590ES, the VPL-VW790ES and the new flagship model, VPL-GTZ380, all offering innovative processing, impressive brightness and a first-class viewing experience.
VPL-GTZ380

The VPL-GTZ380, Sony’s flagship 4K SXRD laser projector, is designed to impress users with its visual experience in a home theatre, media room or living room as well as for corporate uses, entertainment and simulation usage.
With high contrast, brightness and a wide colour gamut, the projector delivers outstanding image expression and HDR performance, in a compact body size weighing 51kg. The picture quality is further enhanced through Sony’s new ‘X1 Ultimate for projector’ chipset.
The projector incorporates a newly developed 0.74-in native 4K SXRD panel with improved light stability and a new laser light source using a red laser diode in addition to the two different wavelength blue laser diodes. This enables the projector to achieve 10,000 lumens and a wide colour gamut of 100% DCI-P3 without any loss of brightness.
The compact chassis and low noise gives installers flexibility when fitting into people’s home.
The flagship VPL-GTZ380 will be available this winter for £79,000.
VPL-VW590ES & VPL-VW790ES
Sony has also announced two new improved projectors; the lap VPL-VW590ES model and laser VPL-VW790ES model will replace the VPL-VW570ES and VPL-VW760ES respectively.
Offering a new HDR experience, the new models feature the new picture processor ‘X1 for projector’, which is based on technology used for Sony’s high-end TVs.
Both models feature dynamic HDR enhancer thanks to the processing power of the newly installed ‘X1 for projector’, meaning more detailed analysis is performed and HDR enhancement power has become stronger compared to previous models.
The VPL-VW590ES model also comes in white
This new HDR feature analyses each scene to deliver the best contrast performance when viewing HDR content, making the bright scenes brighter and the dark scenes darker. The dynamic range of contrast and brightness is further expanded by linking with the laser and iris.
A new technology called Digital Focus Optimiser is used on the models to improve focus level by compensating optical degradation of the lens to offer corner-to-corner clarity.
VPL-VW790ES
Finally, Sony’s unique super resolution ‘Reality Creation’ technology is featured. The ‘X1 for projector’ analyses each scene to enrich 4K content and real-world detail and texture. Even content filmed in 2K or Full HD is upscaled close to 4K. The resolution of each subject is then optimised to reproduce real-world textures.
The VPL-VW580ES model comes in black or white and is available to order now. The VPL-VW790ES only comes in black and is also available to order now.
