In a busy couple of weeks for Sony the announcements keep on coming – now, with the UBP-X500 Blu-ray player.
The latest addition to Sony’s 4K HDR Blu-ray player range comes with its lowest price tag yet since it unleashed its first offering, the UBP-X800, onto the market.
The UBP-X500 will be priced at £200 in the UK – a price which gets you support for multiple disc formats (non-4K, DVD, SACD, and more), not just 4K (and HDR10). Dolby Atmos and True HD audio support is also packed into its small form factor.
Unlike its sister model, the Sony UBP-X700 – which now sits in the same price category – its functionality doesn’t expand to cover Dolby Vision HDR playback with compatible Sony 4K Vision-enabled TVs.
Audio file support includes DSD, FLAC, WAV, AAC, ALAC, and MP3 with video supporting XVID, WMV, AVCHD, MPEG2 and MPEG 4, in addition to immersive audio.
Sony says the UBP-X500 player also packs in “intelligent upscaling” technology for playing standard def or 1080p DVD or standard Blu-ray discs in 4K quality.
The player will be available later this month.
