Kaleidescape unveils Strato K movie player with enhanced 4K and 8K capabilities

Kaleidescape has unveiled its new flagship movie player, designed to deliver high-fidelity playback with support for high-bitrate content.

The Strato K introduces a new 4K Cinematic mode featuring full chroma (up to 4:4:4) and increased bitrates, aiming to maximise image quality using its 8K processing power.

It can operate on its own to store a limited number of 8K, 4K or Cinematic movies, but can also be grouped with Kaleidescape Terra movie servers to increase storage and enable whole-home distribution.

Tayloe Stansbury, chairman and CEO of Kaleidescape, said the new model is designed to better replicate filmmaker’s intent through improved detail and colour accuracy.

It’s also certified by the 8K Association, meeting interoperability requirements defined by the organisation’s internal Technical Working Group.

Juan Reyes, executive director of the 8K Association, said: “The introduction of Kaleidescape’s new Strato K player is a major milestone for the industry and the latest example of how the 8K ecosystem is continuing to evolve.

“As viewing screens become even larger and more 8K content becomes available, the Strato K movie player is poised to play a key role in this emerging market segment.”

Kaleidescape’s movie library includes titles in resolutions like 2K and 4K, with support for lossless multichannel and object-based audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.

The Strato K joins the brand’s existing range of 2K and 4K movie players for home entertainment.

Members of the 8K Association include Panasonic, Samsung and Xperi, among others.
