NETGEAR expands Wi-Fi 7 portfolio to appeal to wider audience

NETGEAR has introduced the Orbi 770 Tri-band Mesh System to its portfolio of Wi-Fi 7 mesh and standalone router line ups, providing powerful Wi-Fi performance and secure connectivity to more people thanks to a more affordable system.

Fairly new to the market, Wi-Fi 7 unlocks speeds 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6, while also delivering low latency and better handling Wi-Fi interference for families to enjoy next gen 4K/8K streaming, video conferencing, gaming and more.

Wi-Fi 7 adoption is growing and new generations of smartphones, laptops and other devices are hitting the market at a rapid pace. This is leading to increasing IoT threats, meaning that router security at the device level is critical to keep digital lives and home protected.

The addition of Orbi 770, set at a much lower price point compared to NETGEAR’s other Wi-Fi 7 devices, delivers these connectivity benefits to a wider audience, allowing them to experience faster speeds and higher performance while ensuring security.

Orbi Wi-Fi 7 Tri-band mesh system provides high performance and speeds up to 11Gbps for up to 100 devices across homes of up to 6,750 sqft with a three pack. It improves connection speeds by combining the 5Hz and 6GHz bands using Multi-Link Operation for both fronthaul to connect to devices and backhaul to connect the router and satellites.

The system includes a 2.5 Gig internet port, enabling the full experience of multi-gig internet speeds available today, making it futureproof for a new era of entertainment, hybrid work, and the next generation of devices and applications. The ample 2.5 Gig LAN ports on the router and satellite can be used for multi-gig wired connections between the two or to connect a shared storage or a gaming PC/console.

Ensuring they are a subtle addition to the home, the Orbi router and satellites are slim, cylindrical shapes to fit conveniently on a desk, shelf or entertainment unit. Each unit features four high-performance internal antennas with high-powered amplifiers for 360-degree coverage, regardless of the home layout.

According to a recent report from NETGEAR and Bitdefender, home network devices see an average of 10 attacks on home networks every day, highlighting the growing importance of security, making it critical to safeguard starting at the router.

Powered by encryption protocols and advanced threat detection mechanisms, NETGEAR routers stand as the first line of defence against evolving cyber threats and include security features such as automatic firmware updates, VPN support, WPA3 security, access control, and guest Wi-Fi network options.

The new Orbi 770 series will be the first product to have an additional layer of security with NETGEAR’s new Advanced Router Protection feature. This feature protects the router from known threats as well as most unknown threats using a combination of AI heuristics and advanced exploit prevention to recognise and block exploitation attempts.

The Advanced Router Protection feature, which has been developed in partnership with Bitdefender, also enables the capability to quickly release live patches for threats without needing to wait for a new firmware release. The new feature will be rolled out to the rest of the Wi-Fi 7 line up later this year.

For added protection, Orbi 770 includes a 30-day free trial to NETGEAR’s Armor Powered by Bitdefender, providing an automatic shield of security for connected devices and added privacy with VPN. Armor is built into the router as an all-in-one security solution, enabling protection of any IoT devices on the network and eliminating the need for multiple security subscriptions or software.

NETGEAR Smart Parental Controls is also included to allow parents to manage their kids’ time online across their connected devices.

The NETGEAR Orbi 770 Series is available now. The router and two satellites have an MSRP of £899.99, the router and one satellite has an MSRP of £649.99 and an add-on satellite is £349.99.
