A company that provides smart home solutions with a difference is currently working to create a new and original Alexa skill in a bid to reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing and make smart home accessible to all.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, TL Tech has produced a suite of online support resources including short tips videos, live tutorials and help guides, allowing people to adopt a voice assistant.
Because of this work, founder, Thomas Laurenson, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Abilitynet Tech4Good Awards.
Passionate about addressing the issue of digital exclusion and ensuring smart homes are accessible to all, TL Tech have seen first-hand through working with vulnerable people, how technology can transform lives if it is used to promote independence and heighten self-care.

“There is a huge opportunity to redefine the role of the smart home, showing how it can offer support to enhance wellbeing and bring families closer,” said TL Tech’s managing director, Caroline Laurenson. “We believe very passionately that smart homes should be accessible to all, regardless of age, technical ability, or finances.
“More and more people are living alone,” continued Laurenson. “Sometimes this is through choice, and for others, it is due to things that have happened in their lives. We believe that technology can help with so many aspects of life, providing people with comfort and connection to the outside world.”
The company is very close to launching the first version of the new Alexa skill, which will be completely free of charge from the Amazon store. However, the organisation does require some funding to complete build and testing processes.
TL Tech is launching a crowdfunding campaign which will run from 26 August to 23 September, with the Abilitynet Tech4Good Awards ceremony held the next day.
