Crestron integrates with ekey

Crestron has announced that ekey biometric systems has become an official Crestron integration partner.

The home automation specialist has officially partnered with the Austria-based provider of fingerprint access solutions to further support offered by the Creston-powered smart home and make entry “more secure, convenient and worry-free.”

eKey’s line of wall-mounted ekey finger scanners will integrate “seamlessly” with 3-Series control systems (with a RS485 COM port and SIMPL Windows software) according to Crestron, allowing integrators to introduce one-touch door entry to their home designs.

eKey products are also specifically focused on fingerprint-based door entry rather than codes and key/access card to reduce the chance of hacking and forgery.

“ekey and Crestron took up the challenge of making door entry more secure and convenient,” commented Michael Short, global residential marketing manager for Crestron. “To deliver on that, we focused on one of the aspects that makes us unique as human beings – fingerprints. Now, in essence, your finger is the key to your Crestron smart home.”

ekey systems furthermore incorporate ‘intelligent’ software capable of tracking the growth of children's fingers, minor injuries and habit changes, as well as monitoring who is entering a building.

“We are very excited about our partnership with Crestron and the possibilities of this advanced integration,” said Georg Schaffer, head of export at ekey biometric systems. “It’s like turning Crestron into a biometric access control system by itself, featuring simplified administration centrally via – for instance, a Crestron touch screen.

“By saving multiple fingerprints of individual users, different functions can be triggered. Whereas your right index finger will become your new key for unlocking your front door, your left index finger will trigger a silent alarm when used under duress.”
