Google adds interpreter mode to Google Home devices and Smart Displays

After successful trials in commercial environments, Google is rolling out its interpreter mode to Google Home devices and Smart Displays to extend its assistance with language barriers.

The interpreter mode, which translates conversations in real time, has been piloting at the concierge and front desks of hotels across America, allowing guests to have free-flowing conversations with staff without worrying about language barriers.

Now, homeowners can use this feature on their smart home devices by using Google Assistant by saying phrases such as “OK Google, be my translator” or “Hey Google, help me speak German”.

With a choice of 26 languages, the interpreter mode can seamlessly translate everything you say into a different language, with reviews saying it is an intuitive and accurate experience. The Google Home Hub also displays a side-by-side readout of the translated phrase.
