Sonos has unveiled its new audio operating system, notable for its open approach to AI control and listening adaptability.
Sonos 27 introduces the Sonos 27voice assistant for music and mood curation alongside the Sonos 27mcp, which connects with any external AI agent including OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Sonos is also previewing the next direction of its open platform with Sonos Custom Agents, which will allow users to create their own agents through the system – each with its own model, persona and voice.
The launch of the Sonos Beam Ultra soundbar and Ace Ultra headphones accompanies the announcement.
Nick Millington, chief innovation officer at Sonos, said: “The smartest home isn't run by one do-everything assistant, it's run by people having the ability to pick – or create – the right agent for each job.”
Meanwhile, the Sonos Fabric system powers two new features that intelligently move sound throughout the home.
Sonos Positioning Technology uses high-frequency audio signals to detect a speaker's location and automatically adapt its role, enabling the new Portable Surrounds feature.
This allows a matching pair of Move 2 or Sonos Play speakers to become rear surrounds, simply by being moved into position.
Additionally, Headphone Linking connects Sonos Ace Ultra directly to the Sonos system as an Early Access feature, allowing listeners to transfer audio between nearby speakers and their headphones.
