HTC takes huge step in 5G connectivity with 5G mobile smart hub launch

HTC has revealed its new HTC 5G Hub at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, a 5G mobile smart hub claimed to be the first of its kind.

Designed for use in both home and office environments, the mobile hub enables 4K video streaming, low-latency gaming, and 5G mobile hotspot features for up to 20 users.

The hub can be used as a home media centre that uses next-generation 5G speeds to stream 4K videos to a second screen. It also has the ability to replace the Wi-Fi router and, with a plug-and-play setup, it removes the need for cabling.

The built-in voice commands and remote control feature allow homeowners to manage entertainment and productivity needs through the hub. It is also designed for use when gaming with ultra-low-latency, 60fps, and 4K resolution (on compatible screens).

The hub’s standout feature is its mobility, allowing owners to use 5G on up to 20 devices while on the go as well as at home or at work. The five-in HD touchscreen makes it easy to use and the long-lasting power is ideal for travelling to connect 5G speeds dramatically faster than 4G LTE networks.

This product is also a key player in the future of VR technology. Users will be able to stream VR content from the cloud to a VIVE Focus headset via the HTC 5G Hub without the need for a PC or unnecessary cables.

Confirmed carriers from across the world to offer the HTC 5G Hub include Three UK, Deutsche Telekom (Germany), Sunrise (Switzerland), Elisa (Finland), Sprint (US), and Telstra (Australia).

“5G is going to bring unimaginable possibilities to connect people to people, people to things and things to things,” says Dave Dyson, CEO at Three. “As a connectivity provider we are at the heart of all of it and bringing this 5G hub to the UK, will enable our customers to make the most of our leading 5G network alongside all the capabilities of this innovative device.”

Dr. John Saw, Spring chief technology officer, comments: “Sprint is thrilled to be the exclusive US wireless carrier for the HTC 5G Hub in the United States. This device will revolutionise the connected home, enhance mobile gaming and power small businesses in a new way. Together with HTC, we’re excited to dramatically improve the way our customers work, play and stay connected with the power and speed of 5G.”

The HTC 5G Hub will be available in Q2 2019.
