IKEA and Sonos finally present first products in SYMFONISK range

The first products from IKEA’s and Sonos’ highly anticipated SYMFONISK range has been revealed at Milan’s Salone del Mobile.

Combining sound and light, the two companies have created a table lamp, doubling as a speaker to feature throughout the home. In addition, the companies have also created a SYMFONISK book-shelf with Wi-Fi Speaker.

The partnership recognised that sound and light are two of the most important factors in everyday life and when creating the right mood around the home. This sparked the idea of merging the two to create the SYMFONISK table lamp with Wi-Fi speaker.

“We knew from the start that we wanted to challenge the traditional high-tech aesthetics. The lamp-speaker partly springs from the idea of the fireplace – one single piece that spreads warm light as well as sound,” said Iina Vuorivirta, one of the designers of SYMFONISK lamp-speaker at IKEA of Sweden.

The speaker was designed by combining IKEA’s home furnishing knowledge and design direction with Sonos’ profound sound expertise to create the table lamp-speaker. Vuorivirta continued: “Our design had to be 100 per cent true to the quality Sonos stands for, without any compromises. At the same time, we wanted to create something completely new.”

IKEA recognised the development of smart homes and launched a wireless charging range in 2015 with the aim to keep developing products for smart homes throughout the years.

Björn Block, business leader for IKEA Home Smart at IKEA of Sweden, said: “Creating atmosphere and convenience are central in the creation of the IKEA Home Smart concept, and the SYMFONISK range is perfectly designed with that in mind. IKEA is always looking for ideas that improve life at home. By integrating technology with home furnishing products and solutions we can do that in an even better way.”

The SYMFONISK table lamp with Wi-Fi speaker is designed to sound great while also being an attractive piece of furniture for the home. Combining a speaker with a lamp into one product also minimises the amount of wires and devices cluttering the space.

The other product announced in the SYMFONISK range is the book-shelf with Wi-Fi speaker. This is designed to give homeowners a connected multi-functional speaker on an affordable budget. It has the option to be hidden in a cabinet or on display. It can also literally be used as a bookshelf when mounted on the wall with bracket, supporting up to three kilograms of weight. Homeowners can also use the hooks on the speaker to attach it to a kitchen rail.

The table lamp speaker will be priced at €179 and the book-shelf speaker will be €99.95. Both products will be on sale from IKEA from August this year.
