Samsung shake-up: merging businesses & two new CEOs

Samsung Electronics has announced the appointment of two new CEOs within a major business restructure which will see Samsung’s mobile, TV and consumer electronics businesses merged into one division called SET.

The new SET division will see Jong-Hee (JH) Han, who is already head of the visual display business, become CEO. According to Samsung, he is an expert in TV R&D and has played a major role in the company achieving the top position in global TV sales for the 15th consecutive year. The company expects Han to strengthen the synergies among the different businesses in the SET Division and help drive new businesses and technologies.

Another new CEO has been announced to head up Samsung’s semiconductor business, Device Solutions (DS Division). Kyehyun Kyung has previously been CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics and is an expert in semiconductor design, according to the company. He has also previously been the head of Samsung Electronics’ Flash Product & Technology Team as well as part of the DRAM Design Team. Samsung Electronics expects Kyung to help maintain the company’s semiconductor leadership and lead innovation in the components business.
