Chowmainsoft has released two new Control4 integrations that bring Google Cast audio devices and Google TV products further into the home automation experience.
The new Google Cast and Google TV drivers provide IP-based, two-way communication between compatible Google devices and Control4.
This extends the existing relationship between the platforms, which allows Google Home users to control Control4-connected lighting, shades and climate systems.
Alan Chow, managing director of Chowmainsoft, said: “Customers can continue casting from their phones, using Google voice control or operating their Google TV normally, but Control4 can now see what those devices are doing and incorporate them into the wider automation experience.”
The Google Cast driver supports compatible Google Home and Nest speakers/displays, Chromecast products and other Cast devices.
Integrators can expose playback information, artwork, volume and transport controls to Control4 with this communication, while also helping Cast devices operate as audio endpoints alongside conventional distributed audio systems.
Meanwhile, the Google TV driver adds bi-directional IP control for compatible televisions, streamers and set-top boxes.
Crucially, Control4 receives playback and power feedback regardless of whether content was started through Control4, a Google TV remote, the Google TV app or casting.
This enables automation based on what the customer is actually doing; for example, starting a streamed programme from a phone can trigger the television and AV system to power up and configure the room, while lighting can respond automatically when playback starts, pauses or stops.
The development highlights the need to make consumer platforms work within managed residential AV, rather than alongside it.
Both drivers are available now, with a free 90-day trial for Control4 integrators.
