Dynaudio has today unveiled its new Contour i series of speakers, providing an extensive update to the award-winning 2016 Contour range.
A major improvement in the new family of speakers is down to the addition of advanced acoustic technology that has trickled down from the flagship Confidence range.
“We didn’t do it because we had to, we did it because we wanted to,” explained Otto Jørgensen, Dynaudio’s product manager. “Basically, this is what happens when you leave our engineers alone with a speaker – they can’t help but improve it.
“We gained so much knowledge during the Confidence project that we simply had to share it with Contour. And we’re absolutely thrilled with the results.”
A new feature on all models in the range is the Esotar 2i tweeter which gains ingenious Hexis resonance-defeating inner dome, as well as a new, larger rear chamber that, together, reduce distortion and give flatter frequency response.
The Contour 20i, 30i and 25Ci woofers all have an updated Nomex spider. Although it’s the same structural design as the 2016 Contour, but with varying width corrugations for fine excursion control, the new material simply sounds better, as a result from many listening hours in the Dynaudio lab.

Another change sees the Contour 60i gaining new woofers with a bigger magnet system, a different voice-coil design and a glass-fibre voice-coil former, as first used in the Confidence range and Sub 6 subwoofer, meaning even tighter bass and a higher volume.
Although there is no physical change to Contour 60i’s midrange driver, it does now sit in a new moulded, resonance-damping enclosure derived from Dynaudio’s flagship professional reference monitor range, Core.
Updated crossovers feature in Contour 20i, 30i and 25Ci. Additionally, as the driver has been tweaked to provide an inherently flat frequency response, the impedance correction circuitry has been removed leaving a simpler board.
Contour 60i has a completely new crossover as a result of the new woofers and new Esotar 2i tweeter. Also, the effect of the moulded midrange cup and the new Nomex woofer spiders enabled the company’s engineers to shift the crossover frequency up.
As a result, it now works better at slightly higher frequencies (up to around 300Hz). The frequency curve in this area is also flatter, meaning better midrange performance from a simpler crossover.
As with all Dynaudio speakers, the new Contour i range was extensively optimised in its Jupiter measuring facility before being subjected to hours of listening by the experts in the lab.
The final improvements see three new finish variants, all with enhanced surface quality. The range is now available in Walnut, an open-wood veneer with a more natural look and feel; Grey Oak High gloss, a natural oak veneer stained in a striking grey colour, covered in an improved high-gloss lacquer; and Black High Gloss, black-painted cabinets covered in an improved high-gloss lacquer.
Available now, the Contour 20i is €4500 a pair, the Contour 30i is €7000 a pair, the Contour 60i is €9000 a pair, and the Contour 25Ci are €3250 each.
