Honeywell has announced its integration with Google Home – allowing owners of the smart speaker in the US to control heating in the home with commands starting “Ok, Google…â€
Owners of Honeywell’s Lyric Round, Lyric T5 and Lyric T6 Pro products, as well as the Total Connect Comfort (Wi-Fi and RedLINK) thermostat now have an added means of controlling their home as Google becomes the latest company to join its “Honeywell Works” programme (also including Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit).
Users will be able to use their voice to control individual heating and cooling zones in the home, as well as general control of Honeywell thermostats in the home.
“With our Google Home integration, we’re thrilled to have the first thermostats integrated with every major smart hub,” commented Scott Harkins, vice president of IoT partner programs at Honeywell Connected Home.
“It is another way we are helping consumers more easily bring smart technology into their homes and lives, regardless of how they want to get started, their home’s unique needs or which smart hub they have.”
As well as controlling devices via commands spoken to the Google Home, users can also control Honeywell thermostats in their home via Google Assistant on Google/Android devices.
Although Amazon has long dominated its rival voice-controlled speakers when it comes to integrations available, Google has been making steady progress since its US release in November 2016 and now boasts over 70 partners in the smart home industry.
A European release of the integration is expected to follow this year.
