KEF announces compact LSX wireless speakers

In keeping with the growing trend among speaker manufacturers to launch smaller versions of its most popular speakers, KEF has announced its LSX speaker.

A compact take on it LS50 wireless speaker, LSX, packs in extensive streaming and connectivity options just like its predecessor.

The tech spec includes a smaller-sized version of the manufacturer’s Uni-Q driver array and a Class D amp module, alongside a sloped baffle housed in a plastic cabinet (rather than MDF), finished in woven fabric.

Owner’s connectivity choices include Ethernet or Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz dual-band), aptX Bluetooth and music can be streamed via DLNA or Tidal, with Apple AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect arriving in the very near future. Streaming is managed via KEF’s dedicated Stream app. A trusty optical input is on hand too, as well as a subwoofer output on offer for ramping up the bass.

Updates made to the LSX mean file transmission between speakers is limited to 24-bit/48kHz, yet can be tethered to reach 24-bit/96kHz and has the potential to hit 24-bit/192kHz.

KEF’s states that its onboard ‘Music Integrity’ engine digital signal processing algorithm works to make sure accurate time alignment and phase coherence.

Speakers can be set up via the manufacturer’s control app (incorporating control of EQ and room settings).

The LSX available in a plethora of jazzy finishes beyond a black fabric or glossy white finish – including blue, maroon and olive.
