A Kickstarter campaign has been launched for a new see through speaker which doubles up as a human-centric light.
The aptly named company, Transparent, which is based in Stockholm, has created the portable speaker in the form of a traditional lantern, and is designed to evoke warmth, atmosphere and aims to give off a natural light.
Named the Light Speaker, it is designed to recreate the look and feel of a real flame, with the light temperature, brightness and movement characteristics all being replicated. As well as being able to adjust the sound, there is an additional direction knob to allow users to alter the light from the subtle burn of coals, a flickering candlelight, and a bright white reading light.
The portable speaker features a detachable handle – much like a real lantern – and has 10 hours of battery life for long portable use. Ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, the Light Speaker is crafted using durable borosilicate glass and aluminium grilles, and carries a IPX2 weather rating.
Its five-watt power output, 2.5-in full range driver, and passive three-in radiator ensures omnidirectional sound with rich bass and crisp details. It also features the latest Bluetooth technology as well as ‘True Wireless’ dual speaker streaming.
Playing its part in combatting climate change, Transparent has used materials that are made to last in a modular design, meaning they can be upgraded and repaired in the future to extend its lifetime.
Transparent launched on Kickstarter almost 10 years ago, following a blog post outlining the concept of the inaugural Transparent Speaker went viral. Following a successful campaign, the Transparent brand was formed along with is sustainable design philosophy and a goal to bridge the gap between home electronics and interior design.
The Light Speaker will be made available in April 2021 at a price of £290 / €320 / $370. However, during the Kickstarter campaign, the speaker will be offered at a slightly reduced price to anyone who invests.
