Sony has launched the HT-AX7 portable theatre system that delivers spatial audio anywhere in a home.
It consists of three speakers and incorporates Sony's 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, which the manufacturer says creates multiple phantom speakers at the front, rear, and overhead to deliver spatial, immersive sound.
The HT-AX7 also features Sony's upmixer algorithm which can transform stereo into three-dimensional surround sound. The upmixer analyses sound in real-time and separates individual sound objects, redistributing them to create a more immersive listening experience. Users can activate the sound field effect for the surround sound-like experience even if they only have 2-channel content.
Set up without any special configuration, the speakers can be positioned as desired and the sound field effect can be turned off for a simple set up.
The HT-AX7 has up to 30 hours of battery life and wireless connectivity via Bluetooth. It can be set up using the Sony | Home Entertainment Connect app which supports initial set up, troubleshooting and control.
Sony has highlighted the environmental credentials of the product that uses a fabric material made from 100% recycled PET bottles for and incorporates recycled plastics for the body.
The HT-AX7 will be available from August 2023 priced at approximately £499 / €550.
