Sony has announced a new range of Native 4K SXRD Laser Home projectors, featuring the world’s smallest native 4K SXRD 0.61” panel, according to the company’s research.
Delivering a 4K HDR image on a large screen, the two new projectors feature new wide dynamic range optics in combination with TRILUMINOS PRO. Sony’s ‘X1 Ultimate for projector’, the picture processor that is based on technology used in its BRAVIA TV range and optimised for projectors, is implemented to enable unique features such as Dynamic HDR Enhancer and Object-Based Super Resolution to create expanded dynamic range and extreme clarity, heightening the viewing experience.
The first in the new range is the VPL-XW7000ES, Sony’s powerful new Native 4K SXRD laser model, featuring 3,200lm of brightness and Live Colour Enhancer to deliver a high-quality picture performance and vivid images, even in bright living spaces. These features give the user flexibility to use the projector for immersing in films, sports or gaming.
Adding to the visual performance, a new 70mm diameter Advanced Crisp Focused (ACF) lens with aspherical front element and floating focus group has been added to deliver extreme clarity so that every detail can be experience on a large screen.
The other projector, the VPL-XW5000ES is a 2,000lm laser model, which delivers higher contrast and resolution with a 30% reduction in power consumption per lumen, as well as object-based HDR remastering for powerful real-time picture processing. The XW series features TRILIMINOS PRO, bringing over a billion colours to life with 95% DCI-P3 Colour Gamut.
“We have been delivering the highest quality projectors for our customers to enjoy immersive entertainment experiences for 50 years this year, and our Native 4K SXRD projector have been market leading in providing these experiences for over a decade,” said Christopher Mullins, home cinema product manager for Sony Professional Displays & Solutions.
“We are so excited to bring the world’s most compact and high-brightness laser projectors to our customers, with a sophisticated new design that blends with many home environments and enables more flexibility for use in dedicated rooms as well as media or living rooms with ambient lighting. These new models show our continued commitment to developing products that provide extraordinary viewing experiences whilst delivering more value to the consumer with each generation.”
Compared to the VPL-VW790ES, the new VPL-XW7000ES is 20% smaller and 30% lighter, while the VPL-XW5000ES is 30% smaller and 35% lighting, making it the most compact Native 4K HDR laser projector in the world, according to Sony Corporation’s research of the native 4K projector market.
Both models offer 3,840 x 2,160 4K resolution images with 8.3m pixels for a lifelike image. It delivers rich, inky blacks as well as clear cinematic motion and image smoothness. Within the new Native 4K SXRD panel, a reflective silicon layer provides better light control for precisely delivered shadows and blacks and improves light durability and reflectance.
Due to the processing power of the X1 Ultimate for projector, the contrast in combination with the laser output control on both models is further enhanced, making the HDR bright scenes brighter and the dark scenes darker. Newly launched object based HDR remaster allows for more powerful real-time picture processing that analyses objects of each frame for enhanced HDR imagery for any content.
Just like their predecessors, the new projectors feature input lag reduction mode which dramatically improves the performance of the display reaction speed to ensure gamers can enjoy the best possible experience alongside detailed image quality. The new XW range supports 2K 120Hz input with 13ms input lag.
Reducing the impact on the environment, Sony has used 30% less plastic to encase the VPL-XW7000ES and 15% less packaging material compared to its predecessor, the VPL-VW790ES. The VPL-XW5000ES is packed with a 2,000 lumen, but its power consumption is reduced by 30%. Both models are built with a mercury free laser light source.
The new VPL-XW7000ES and VPL-XW5000ES will replace all lamp-based home theatre projectors, as well as the VPL-VW790ES. The VPL-VE890ES, VPL-VW5000ES and VPL-GTZ380 will remain in the range.
The VPL-XW7000ES estimated retail price is £14,999 and the VPL-XW5000ES is £5,999.
