Technics reveals entry-level hi-fi turntable

Technics has launched its new SL-100C Direct Drive Turntable, a more affordable version of the award-winning SL-1500C.

The SL-100C features many of the same iconic characteristics of Technics turntables, such as the iron-coreless direct drive motor with motor control to ensure smooth rotational stability, and a high-precision S-shaped aluminium tonearm capable of collecting the most subtle music nuances out of every vinyl disc. To prevent unnecessary needle wear, the turntable features an automatic tonearm lift (which can be turned off) that is activated at the end of every vinyl’s groove.

Its solid two-layer chassis ensures a meticulous tracking process which is free from external vibrations.

Delivering a cost-effective solution without significant compromise, the new SL-100C comes with the Audio-Technica VM95C, an on-board pickup cartridge. The conical stylus of the VM95C ensures precise tracking and detail retrieval from the vinyl grooves, while the cartridge’s technical characteristics mean it is widely compatible with typical Phono Moving Magnet inputs found on hi-fi amplifiers.

“The huge success of the SL-1500C, offering a fully features package for the dedicated hi-fi enthusiast, with all the core Technics turntable technologies, has shown we have hit the mark within a popular and competitive turntable class,” said Frank Balzuweit, European Technics product manager. “The demand for this high-quality ‘plug-and-play’ turntable – having exceeded our own expectations – is still undiminished even to this day. However, there is still a strong appetite from the market to deliver a similarly attractive package at an even more affordable price.”

The Sl-100C will be available in Europe from June 2021, priced at £799 / €899.
