Sonos has today introduced Sonos Arc, a new smart soundbar that brings immersive home cinema sound to the home, replacing Playbar and Playbase in the Sonos line up.
The first product from Sonos to feature support for Dolby Atmos, Arc delivers an ultra-wide soundstage and impressive bass.
Available in matte black or matte white, Arc has a 270-degree rounded plastic grille for multi-dimensional sound.
It has 11 high-performance drivers, including two that are upward firing for 3D audio, producing dramatic clarity, detail and depth. The soundbar adjusts its sound profile through software based on the home cinema set-up and what is playing, whether stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, or Dolby Atmos.
Users can also refine Arc’s sound via the Sonos app, where they can turn on Speech Enhancement to further clarify vocals, and Night Sound to temper loud explosions. The app also includes an update to Sonos’ Trueplay tuning technology which adjusts Arc’s acoustic profile based on the room, accounting for horizontal and vertical sound that come with 3D sound.
Arc can be set up in front of a standing TV or mounted to the wall with a separate custom designed wall mount. The soundbar can be connected through HDMI eARC or ARC to give homeowners a flexible choice.
Built on Sonos’ next generation S2 software platform, users can control Arc through the new Sonos app, an existing TV remote, voice commands using built-in Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, and Apple AirPlay 2.
For an even more immersive experience, homeowners can add a Sonos Sub and a pair of One SL surrounds to give a fully immersive, cinematic surround experience.
“Home has never played a more important role in our lives and we’ve always been about making the home more enjoyable with great sounding products and new experiences,” said Patrick Spence, CEO of Sonos. “Arc brings the sounds of our favourite shows and artists to life like never before.
“Our goal is to make any room you have a television a place you can easily enjoy all of the great streaming video and music that exists today. Arc illustrates our commitment to brilliant sound and premium design, and sets a new standard for soundbars.”
Sonos Arc is available globally on 10 June for £799 / $799. It is available to pre-order now.
Sonos has also announced updated versions of the Sonos Sub (Gen 3) and Sonos Five, replacing Play:5 (Gen 2), as well as a brand-new app.
