Hampshire-based integration firm, New Land Solutions, has excelled in an outstanding smart home renovation project in a fashionable part of London.
Breath-taking in concept and implementation, the integrated solution for this project is built on the firm foundations of a Pakedge-controlled data network to help deliver optimum system performance, reliability, remote management and monitoring excellence.
This seven-storey Georgian terraced property dates back to 1775 and is a fantastic example of technology and interior design meeting in perfect balance. New Land Solutions has combined with acclaimed designer Tim Gosling, and architect, Ian Adam-Smith to provide a very special family home, where whole house audio, video distribution, security systems, HVAC, blinds, lighting, an automated roof lift and even the wine fridges are seamlessly integrated, monitored and automatically controlled.
One standout area of the project is the custom-made media room in the basement. This deceptively simple space is focused around a relaxing, half circle sofa and compact, coffee table. But, with one press of the Savant-controlled touchscreen, the space magically transforms. The coffee table disappears into the floor allowing the sofa to slide forward and over the now empty space. From behind the sofa, five Fortress cinema chairs appear from beneath, thanks to a Future Automation automated lift mechanism. A large Screen Research projector screen descends down from a concealed ceiling slot in front of the sofa and a Runco projector from Pulse Marketing noiselessly slides into position behind a wall at the rear of the room. The blinds automatically descend to create a perfect movie-viewing environment, 11 hidden speakers power on, driven by Procella amplification and a Datasat RS 20 audio processor to complete a unique media room transformation.
Underpinning the reliable smooth-running of all the IP networked devices within this room and for the additional sub-systems in the property is Pakedge, the AV networking specialist.
“Our main reasons for using Pakedge are reliability and ease of use,” says Luke Director of New Land Solutions. “We’re using Pakedge’s cloud and smartphone app BakPak for remote monitoring and management which allows us to remotely identify problems and reboot devices, if needed, saving both us and our client time and money. With so much technology on the project, this is a vitally important requirement in meeting the client’s expectations.”
He adds, “The Pakedge 24-port managed switches we’re using on this project support VLANs out of the box which allows us to manage all data traffic according to needs. This is a fantastic asset as we need to prioritise key services, such as, Internet access and IP security camera operation, over less critical, bandwidth-hungry tasks, like, music streaming.”
BakPak provides New Land Solutions with full remote access to their customers’ network via an Apple iPad, iPhone or Android device or Web browser. Quick and easy to set up, it works in combination with Pakedge’s NP36 Cloud Appliance, allowing the company to automatically discover then configure and manage Pakedge products and other manufacturers’ devices on the network. In real time, they can review diagnostics, uptime and downtime, manage network appliances, store and back up customer data and perform remote system reboots across multiple projects 24/7, eliminating time-consuming site visits.
Full project and system visibility is possible in an at-a-glance view from a single dashboard, without the need for port forwarding or DynDYS. The app enables New Land Solutions to remotely power cycle the Power over Ethernet (PoE) ports on Pakedge switches and power distribution units at the site.
New Land Solutions has also used BakPak to establish powerful, pre-defined alerts to SMS, email and mobile push notifications in the event of a fault to speed up trouble-shooting and repair. These features have helped the company improve the speed and efficiency of customer service, so that they can identify and solve problems, often before they are ever discovered by the client.
The NP36 monitors the network, enabling secure management and BakPak functionality. It captures important device information and forwards it to the cloud to allow secure, comprehensive monitoring, maintenance, and device management through BakPak. The NP36 is rack mountable in a standard 19in. AV rack, fitting neatly and perfectly with other network equipment installed on this project.
