Leading smart home integration company, Electric String has completed a top of the range digital audio installation within the opulent media room of a seven-bedroom mews property in Knightsbridge, London.
Using Meridian’s discreet yet powerful DSP320 in-ceiling loudspeakers, Electric String has provided the very best audio quality, saving significant rack space, without intruding on the beautiful interior design.
“The client already had a Meridian system installed in another of his properties that he absolutely loved,” says Rob Sullivan of Electric String. “He wanted to have the same audio quality in this property, for watching TV or listening to music in this media room. However, we just didn’t have the floor space for floor-standing speakers, nor could we go for an in-wall option around the Samsung screen because of wall thickness issues. Fortunately, Meridian’s DSP320 in-ceiling loudspeaker is capable of delivering fantastic performance while being very compact, taking up very little space.”
Electric String made use of Meridian’s free Design and Specification Service throughout the project. After receiving a layout of the property, Meridian provided Electric String with a full wiring schematic and a diagram showing the ideal ceiling placement for the speakers and other technology. This speeded up the installation process significantly, and gave the client peace of mind, showing why certain products were being used, and the precise design of the setup. As the system would be used for movies as well as music, Electric String opted for a multi-channel audio set up, with five DSP320 speakers installed in the ceiling of the living room, and a DSW subwoofer in a specially designed cabinet.
Meridian’s DSP320 loudspeaker contains all the electronics within the speaker, including digital audio converters and two integral, powerful 80W class amplifiers for wide-range and bass drivers. This means there is no need for any amplification equipment in the rack, saving yet more space.
Installation of the DSP320 is also made much easier because it can be wired solely with Meridian’s Speakerlink or equivalent CAT6 cable, enabling long cable runs and plug-in and play connectivity without any loss of sound quality or the need for any additional speaker cable or wiring. The result is quicker and simpler speaker set up and installation.
Meridian’s award-winning Sooloos platform controls the system, which enables fantastic audio performance and access to a huge library of music from CDs or internet streaming services. Electric String integrated the Sooloos platform with the existing Crestron control system, which controls sub-systems throughout the property, using a Meridian Control 15 touchscreen to provide the interface. This innovative setup significantly simplified controlling the AV and integrated systems in the property, as it could all be done from one platform.
Electric String also installed a Meridian HD621 audio processor, which separates the audio signal from the video and routes it through Meridian’s digital audio processing technology. The result is superior audio quality and absolute synchronisation of audio and video, so the actor’s lips are never out of time with the sound.
