HDMI 2.1 technology explored in new CEDIA whitepaper

In response to the increasing use of HDMI 2.1 technology in residential installations, CEDIA has attempted to untangle the complex technology in a new whitepaper.

‘HDMI 2.1 Technology for Integrators’ contains a comprehensive overview of the technology’s use cases, specifications, improved capabilities, and design implications for industry professionals.

With HDMI 2.1, the data ceiling vaults from 18Gbps to 48Gbps, opening the door to larger video formats, reduced need for compression, and a more robust pipeline for gaming and activities that require heavy data resources.

“When you think of HDMI 2.1, higher bandwidth and increased performance come to mind first,” said Walt Zerbe, CEDIA’s senior director of technology and standards. “What this whitepaper will also demonstrate is the technology’s seriously high versatility and its full scope of significance for gamers, viewers, and integrators.

“This whitepaper is one of our most detailed, digging into all facets of considerations, applications, and connectivity for this technology, which takes a giant leap forward for the integrator and the end user.”

Outlining what the use of the technology means for system designers and integrators, the whitepaper will detail factors including differences from previous HDMI, bandwidth, video formats, ‘quick’ frame transport modes, audio and eARC, connectivity, among others.

CEDIA members receive complimentary access to ‘HDMI 2.1 Technology for Integrators’ and it is $99 for non-members.
