LG has announced that all of its AI offerings are going to be launched under a new sub-brand billed ‘ThinQ.’
Both the Korean consumer powerhouse’s AI products and services will fall under the brand – starting in 2018 – as the manufacturer ramps up its artificial intelligence output.
LG states that all upcoming TVs, fridges, electronic devices and services under the new brand will have features developed with deep learning techniques and will be able to communicate with one another.
The brand also teased us with a mention of its own AI tech, DeepThinQ (first publicised at CES 2017 earlier this year), which both its own and partners’ products will incorporate, but was coy on the finer details of the benefits this can provide.
Of course LG has already products in the market under the ‘SmartThinQ’ product umbrella, but it says the distinction between the two is that ThinQ will specifically "highlight LG('s) intelligent products."
"AI is the next frontier in technology and as a leader in home appliances and consumer electronics, [it has] a responsibility to make AI more approachable and less intimidating,” said LG in a statement.
This news may not come as a surprise to some – LG has been publically making comments about its work in AI throughout the year following CES, and boasts a dedicated AI lab in Seoul which houses all its top-secret work into voice, video and sensor R&D.
