Lutron announces acquisition of Ketra

Lutron Electronics has revealed that is finalising the acquisition of Ketra, a start-up renowned for its line of lighting products that mimick daylight.

In a fairly surprising move considering its operations to date, lighting powerhouse Lutron has opened the cheque book to take ownership of Ketra’s range of lighting and control offerings.

Founded back in 2009, the Austin-based company’s expertise lies in manufacturing light products customisable by the end user to suit the needs of the space. The company serves both the commercial and residential market, which makes sense given Lutron’s big push into the commercial arena.

“Ketra’s range of quality light complements the Lutron light control product offering and enables our customers to create a more comfortable, productive, and pleasant environment at home and at work,” said Lutron’s co-CEO & president, Mike Pessina. “We’re excited to deliver this expanded light control solution to the industry.”

Ed Blair, Lutron’s senior VP, adds that the move allows Lutron to solidify its stake in the lighting market: “This allows Lutron to take care of its customers with the most comprehensive portfolio of light control solutions in the market.

Moreover, it uniquely positions Lutron for the greatest success in the market’s areas of growth, such as simulated natural light, smart homes and buildings, and tunable white.”

Ketra’s CEO, Nav Sooch also shared his excitement about the deal, noting that Lutron’s “global reach, unmatched service, support, and outstanding reputation” will offer a number of new opportunities for the company.

The manufacturer’s light sources will soon be compatible with the Lutron HomeWorks QS total home control system and Lutron Quantum total light management system following the deal.

Ketra’s ‘Natural Light’ offerings will be showcased at Lutron booth at CEDIA 2018 in San Diego this September.
