Samsung Electronics has added 47 channels to its free Smart TV video service, Samsung TV Plus.
Viewers in select regions of the UK will now have access to the extra 47 channels across news, sports, entertainment and more, and will be automatically installed on Samsung Smart TVs.
Samsung TV Plus is also expanding its movie offerings with a more widespread launch of its owner and operated service, Rakuten TV.
Rakuten TV was previously available as a paid for add-on for customers in five countries and had just 20 channels. Later this month, Rakuten TV will be relaunched as an advertising-based service with over 28 channels and will be available in seven countries, making the content more available to consumers.
“The advanced gains made in content availability have reframed the role of the television in our homes,” commented Guy Kinnell, vice president, TV and AV, Samsung Electronics UK. “Watching quality entertainment that is personal to your tastes has taken another big step forward this year on Samsung Smart TVs.
“I feel across the UK and Ireland, we’re so much more purposeful about what we choose to watch,” he continued. “As content gets richer and more dynamic, the best TVs will be defined by their ability to deliver a viewing experience that is without compromise and more in-tune with the viewer’s more sophisticated desire to be entertained and informed.
“At Samsung, out TVs are at the forefront of this change in media consumption, and with further developments with TV Plus we see another step in delivering the amazing future of television.”
Samsung TV Plus offers users free TV where only an internet connection is needed. It is available in seven countries in Europe, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, UK, France, Italy and Spain.
There are 2.6 million active monthly user across the seven countries, each watching an average of 1.9 hours of TV Plus content per month.
