HDR10+ Technologies LLC debuts new certification programme for devices using Eclipsa Audio

HDR10+ Technologies LLC will administer a new certification programme for a 3D audio technology tailored to home entertainment devices, like TVs and soundbars.

Eclipsa Audio, introduced by Samsung and Google at CES 2025, will undergo a new standard based on the Immersive Audio Model and Format (IAMF) specifications. These were created by a global consortium of technology companies, known as the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia).

HDR10+ Technologies LLC, the organisation behind the HDR10+ video format, will prioritise immersive listening in its standard. IAMF enables content creators and distribution platforms to deliver spatial audio with efficient encoding and flexible rendering, making it adaptable to a variety of playback conditions.  It’s also codec agnostic and released under a royalty-free license.

Bill Mandel, co-manager of the LLC, said: "For years, HDR10+ has been at the forefront of video innovation, offering a spectacular viewing experience.

"With Eclipsa Audio, we can now ‘complete the picture’ by connecting ‘sight and sound’ in a unified manner that achieves total immersive entertainment, just as the creator intended.”

The new Eclipsa Audio certification programme will initially address TVs, with other devices to follow. The first certified devices are expected to be introduced shortly.

Matt Frost, chairman of AOMedia’s Steering Committee, added: “Digital experiences today are powered by platforms and services that are generally available from their developers, via open-source browsers, operating systems, social networks and video conferencing.

“Immersive audio should be no exception, but realising this requires robust device testing and maximum compliance. Given its expertise in this area, HDR10+ Technologies LLC has been designated to administer the Eclipsa Audio programme.”

The LLC announced it exceeded 160 adopters at CES 2025, and currently has seven testing facilities worldwide.
