K-array’s Kommander amplifiers have been enabled with an IP-based protocol via software update.
The Italian audio manufacturer is the first brand to natively embed the Network Device Interface (NDI) protocol into its amplifiers – without the need for external gateways, licenses or additional hardware.
Alessandro Tatini, CEO of K-array, said: “Bringing NDI into our amplifiers, at no cost to the user, demonstrates how our software-defined architecture is ready to embrace every evolution of AV-over-IP.
“It’s a concrete example of how innovation drives real-world value for our customers.”
With the update, K-array amplifiers can support bidirectional AV-over-IP workflows via their Linux-based Oskar OS.
Thousands of Kommander units can become NDI-capable through a free firmware update, with the announcement preceding a live preview at InfoComm 2025.
Tatini said the integration offers additional value and competitive difference.
Widely adopted in the video broadcast and live production sectors, NDI’s expansion into audio marks a significant evolution driven by K-array’s adoption.
Roberto Musso, technical director at NDI, added: “We’ve always envisioned NDI as a unified bridge for both video and audio across IP networks.
“K-array’s commitment to native NDI integration represents a turning point for the audio industry.”
