B&O Play releases Beoplay M5 speaker

B&O Play has added the Beoplay M5 to its range of wireless speakers for the home.

Designed by Cecilie Manz, Beoplay M5 speaker is currently available in black and 'natural' colours, and is covered in acoustically transparent wool-blend fabric from Danish manufacturer Kvadrat, like the Beoplay A6 and A9. The cover can be replaced to suit specific design schemes for homeowners.

The speaker top of the M5 is constructed from aluminium, pearl-blasted and anodised to create a matter appearance. Underneath the aluminium disc is a polymer body that houses a large acoustic chamber that delivers 360-degree omnidirectional sound.

Users press the disc downwards to play or pause the speaker, and also connect inactive M5s to other music devices in the home. Homeowners have access to three pre-set sound modes in the Beoplay app to adapt the device to different placement in a room – freestanding, corner or wall positioning.

The M5 is powered by three tweeters, a full range capable front-facing midrange driver and a 5-in neodymium powered long stroke woofer. The speaker is capable of beam direction and beam width control, and incorporates B&O’s Play’s proprietary Ambient Technology.

Homeowners can also connect any Chromecast-enabled speaker for multi-room access to service such as Spotify, Google Play Music and Pandora, thanks to built-in Chromecast functionality (where Chromecast built-in is offered).

The M5 also supports Beolink Multiroom, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect and Apple Airplay.
