British music company Cambridge Audio has launched the EXN100 music streamer as part of the new EX Series.
The product joins the EXA100 stereo integrated amplifier to form the series, developing the ESS Reference DAC from the company’s CXN100 with an increased signal path.
Further upgrades include a HDMI eARC for TV connection, Bluetooth aptX HD for hi-res wireless streaming on devices such as Cambridge Audio’s Alva turntable and finally a 25% larger colour display.
The new design also provides thicker casework, milled aluminium front panel and knurled control knob. The 1280x720 colour screen aims to showcase album artwork with increased clarity.
Precision, dynamic range and low distortion
Engineered at the company’s London-based music venue and HQ, Melomania, the ESS ES9028Q2M SABRE32 Reference DAC at the centre of EXN100 can handle PCM digital signal inputs up to 32-bit 768kHz and DSD 512.
Changes have been made to the post-DAC analogue stage to increase clarity and separation in conjunction with hand-picked components.
Matt Dore, chief technical officer of Cambridge Audio, said: “We’ve spent thirteen years developing and honing our StreamMagic platform, listening to customers to create a stable, great-sounding streaming experience.
“EXN100 is the perfect modern vehicle for that StreamMagic technology, and our best music streamer yet.”
Connected and controlled streaming
StreamMagic is the company’s streaming platform catering for Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Deezer, Qobuz, Roon Ready, UPnP and Internet Radio, with support for hi-res audio over Wi-Fi, Ethernet or USB Audio. New features and services are regularly added to the streaming platform.
Devices can be connected through USB, Coaxial and TOSLINK, as well as wirelessly with Chromecast, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth aptX HD. For music sharing, EXN100 is fully compatible with Google Home, Apple AirPlay and Roon multi-room systems.
Analogue output is available through stereo RCA sockets or balanced XLR.
The StreamMagic app controls EXN100 in full, supplemented by the new EX Series system remote purchased as a separate item.
A versatile streaming partner
StreamMagic offers a range of connections for the EXN100, complemented by the Preamp Mode digital control hub facility and controllable volume via the StreamMagic app, EX remote control or front-mounted rotary dial.
Preamp Mode can form a pre/power digital-first combo with the new EXA100 stereo integrated amplifier, complete with a dedicated Power Amp Mode to bypass its own preamp section.
