Over the weekend at IFA 2018 in Berlin, Google announced that it would add multilingual support to Google Assistant. The smart home tool already supports multiple languages and now can understand and speak in more than one language at a time.
The development coincides with the introduction of new devices and appliances for the home that support the Assistant from Google partners in Europe.
Multilingual support for any pair of languages within English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese is available, with Google promising more languages in the coming months.
Google also announced that Google Home Max is now available in Germany, the UK and France. The multiroom Wi-Fi speaker was launched to provide “whole room, premium audio”.
The tech giant is also extending the devices its Assistant will be built into, naming Bang & Olufsen’s Beosound 1 and Beosound 2, Blaupunkt’s PVA 100, Harman Kardon’s HK Citation series, Kygo’s Speaker B9-800, Polaroid’s Sam and Buddy and Marshall Acton II and Stanmore II.
