HARMAN International has introduced the JBL L82 Classic, a bookshelf version of its best-selling JBL L100 loudspeaker.
Launched last week at CES 2020, the new bookshelf speaker follows the success of the L100 three-way bookshelf loudspeaker released in 1970, which was a consumer version of the JBL 4310 Pro Studio Monitor.
Based on the JBL L100 Classic loudspeaker which was introduced in 2018, the new L82 Classic’s eight-in, two-way system design offers a more compact solution to consumers while still delivering a premium hi-fi sound experience, as well as an option of both retro and modern aesthetics.
Sold as mirror-image pairs, the L82 Classic features a one-in titanium dome tweeter with acoustic lens waveguide and front-panel HF Level attenuator. It uses the same tweeter as used in the larger L100 Classic.
It also features an eight-in cast frame white poly cone woofer delivers a full, natural sound with bass-reflex tuning via a front-firing Slipstream port.
In classic JBL style, the L82 Classic comes in a retro design with vintage JBL styling including an iconic Quadrex foam grille in a choice of three colours – black, orange or blue. All options feature a black and bronze JBL logo.
The speaker is finished in a genuine satin walnut wood veneer and can be positioned vertically and horizontally.
There is also the option to buy JS-80 floor stands (sold as a pair) for the L82 Classic, to elevate and angle the speakers to a correct tweeter height and to direct high frequencies to ear level.
Additional Quadrex foam grille packs are available to buy in all three colours to suit décor.
The L82 Classic is scheduled for release around April 2020, prices at £2,000 / €2,200 / $2,500 per pair. The JS-80 floor stands are priced at £175 / €200 / $250 per pair.
