Mission launches new classic bookshelf speaker

The Mission 750 is a compact speaker that features an inverted driver arrangement where the treble unit is placed below the mid/bass driver.

This configuration, known as IDG (Inverted Driver Geometry), is a signature Mission feature. It is claimed to aid ‘time alignment’ by placing the mid/bass driver closer to ear level with the treble unit positioned beneath, the path lengths from the two drivers’ acoustic centres are equalised so that the sound waves coincide at the listener’s head height to improve stereo imaging.

The 750’s treble unit incorporates a damped, 28mm microfibre dome backed by a damped rear chamber that aims to push the fundamental resonance below the crossover region. The circuit was mapped out using short signal paths and accommodating components such as super-transparent polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors.

The drivers and crossover are housed in wood veneered cabinet, featuring a twin-wall of high-density MDF and particle board bonded by a layer of damping adhesive. Internal bracing adds strength to the front baffle, creating a mechanical support that aids the dynamic performance of the mid/bass unit. This is complemented by layers of acoustic damping fibre, placed to absorb reflections inside the cabinet without overdamping the bass quality.
