Introduced to compete with Ring’s video doorbell range, Nest has announced the release of Nest Hello in the UK.
The Nest Hello offers much of the same functionality of Ring, but comes out on top for those specifically looking for 24/7 streaming and continuous video recording (and of course, is hardwired, rather than wireless).
The video doorbell notifies owners when a guest is at the door when in and out of their home via their phone, and can chat to them via the HD Talk and Listen function. Users can also respond with one of several pre-recorded responses via the Nest app.
Quiet Mode is further on hand to silence the chimer, whilst still providing notifications about visitors, for those occasions when peace and quiet is needed in the home.
Recent updates also mean Nest Hello can even inform users that there’s someone at the door via Google Assistant speakers.
Nest has priced the Nest Hello at £229 in the UK. Those with a Nest Aware subscription can receive personalised alerts – for example, acknowledging whether it is a neighbour or family member at the door.
Amazon’s recent acquisition of Ring means it is very much a battle of the consumer heavyweights when it comes to its rivalry with Google-owned Nest (and the retailer even stopped selling its products in March). For now, getting a head start on the market, coupled with Amazon’s big push into entry-level security is helping Ring do well on both sides of the pond.
