Sonos unleashes new app and updated Sub & Sonos Five

Sonos has announced updated versions of the Sonos Sub (Gen 3) and Sonos Five, replacing Play:5 (Gen 2), as well as a brand-new app.

This news comes on the same day the company releases Arc, a new soundbar to replace its Playbar and Playbase.

The two updated products bring increased memory and faster processing power while delivering the same great sound experiences customers expect from their Sonos devices.

Sonos Sub
Sonos Sub provides added bass when connected wirelessly to a Sonos speaker, optimising the lower frequencies for even richer and more dramatic sound. The new Sub has the same design and bold bass, but it features the new hardware to bring even better performance.

The new Sub is available to pre-order now for £699 / €799 / $699 and will be released on 10 June.

Sonos Five
Another update comes in the form of the Sonos Five, replacing Sonos’ iconic Play:5. True to its predecessor, Sonos Five fits in any space with versatility.

It can be used as a standalone speaker horizontally, or two can be paired in the upright position for detailed stereo separation. Again, the new Sonos Five features the latest hardware to give improved performance.

The Sonos Five can be used with a vinyl player, using the line-in to connect it for playback through Sonos.

Sonos Five is available in black with a black grille and, for the first time, in white with a white grille. It can be pre-ordered now for £499 / €579 / $499 with availability starting on 10 June.

Sonos app
The final update from Sonos is a brand new app. Launching on 8 June, the new Sonos app delivers an upgraded software platform that will power the next generation of products and experiences from Sonos, including Arc, Five, and the third generation Sub, as well as the recently launched Sonos Radio.

The app supports higher resolution audio technologies, such as the Dolby Atmos experience on Arc, as well as increased security and improved design for easier use.

Updates to the user interface allows customers to easily search for content, control sound, and personalise their experience with features such as saved room groups.

All favourites, services and settings saved in the original app will transition simply over to the new app.
