Toshiba may have had its fair share of financial difficulties recently, but the company is pinning its hopes on OLED technology to revive its fortunes.
Among the recently announced launches from the Japanese manufacturer is the X97 OLED, it’s first ever 4K OLED TV.
Toshiba’s 65-in X97 model will offer 4K Netflix and YouTube support, as well as a “ScreenShare” feature for streaming video from an Android smartphone. Users will also be able to connect a 4K Blu-ray player or games console through one of its four HDMI ports.
The TV also incorporates MEMC (motion estimation/motion compensation) technology for the movie-watching experience. Its ‘Game Mode’ feature will additionally offer a response time of under 1ms.
The X97 has been announced alongside Toshiba’s U77 range of 4K LCD televisions (available in 55-in and 49-in screen sizes) and its 4K U67 range (available in 65in, 55in, 49in or 43in sizes) – all of which offer Netflix and YouTube support.
Although not publically announced yet, reports suggest the X97 TV will be priced around the £4000 mark in the UK, with the U77 range starting at around £600.
After the troubles that following partnering with Vestel (including posting a £3.8bn loss just over a year ago), Toshiba could potentially be back on track and the company has stated that a range of TVs with HDR and Amazon Prime Video are on the horizon for 2018.
