Vivitek launches entry-level 4K HDR projector

Whereas the likes of Sony and JVC may dominate when it comes to high-end 4K HDR projection, a new entry-level marketplace is opening up – featuring Optoma, BenQ, and now Vivitek… Enter the HK2288.

Following on from last month’s launch of the sub-£2,000 BenQ projector (to be released in January), Vivitek has announced the launched its 4K HDR model.

Vivitek’s HK2288 projector offers 2,000-lumen brightness and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. It additionally packs in 1.39-2.09 throw, 1.5x zoom and vertical lens shift.

The projector incorporates Texas Instruments' recently developed 4K DLP chip, using 4.15 million (2716 x 1528) mirrors to deliver what the manufacturer bills as “optimal” black levels, in addition to a large range of colours from its DarkChip3 and Brilliant Color processing.

The model’s three HDMI 2.0 inputs allow 4K and HDR passthrough from an UHD Blu-ray player.

By all appearances, the HK2288 is on spec to deliver a good HDR experience – but to see how it matches up against the Optoma UHD65 and projectors above it, we’ll have to wait until later this month when the projector is released (in black or white).
