Yamaha launches first DTS Virtual:X soundbar

Yamaha has introduced the YAS-207, a sound bar incorporating DTS’s Virtual:X post-processing virtualisation technology for surround sound.

The 4K HDR-compatible YAS-207 replaces its predecessor, the YAS-203, and now boasts HDMI inputs, Bluetooth functionality and compatibility with an Android or Apple app.

DTS state its Virtual:X technology is capable of creating on matching the sound of a 7.1.4 sound set-up with both and new content using a post-processing algorithm. This allows licensees to employ certain features (such as virtual height) to create the illusion of the sound coming at you from various heights without moving the speakers – whereas it is natively encoded with DTS:X.

The soundbar also has been redesigned with a thinner profile for measuring 8-in high for placement in front of TVs or for wall-mounting under a TV using built-in keyholes. The accompanying wireless subwoofer has a vertical rectangular shape for flexible placement in different environments.

The YAS-207 will be released by Yamaha next month, with the DTS update to follow in August. It is priced in the US at $300.
