Fell Audio introduces budget hi-fi designed and manufactured in UK

A new family-owned manufacturer with a fifty-year legacy is offering budget-priced hi-fi made in Britain.

Fell Audio, based in Carlisle, UK, is backed by hi-fi retailer Peter Tyson who has five decades of experience in the industry. Unlike competitors using overseas production, Fell Audio focuses on British manufacturing and aims to set itself apart in the entry-level arena. Benchmarking against competitors has allowed the brand to produce specifications for British-made budget devices.

Fell Audio’s designs are crafted by a hi-fi manufacturing partner and backed by a five-year warranty. The range, styled on a retro-modern aesthetic inspired by 1970s hi-fi, will initially comprise two core products: the Fell Disc CD player, plus the Fell Amp featuring built-in phono stage, Bluetooth connectivity and ESS Sabre DAC.

Fell Amp: redefining entry level

Priced at £599, the Fell Amp is an 89-watt Class D design benefiting from purpose-made PCBs, built-in MM phono stage and aptX HD Bluetooth for streaming.

Fell Audio’s designers and engineers have specified capacitive-touch light-up buttons to make selecting inputs intuitive.

The amp also gives a visual indication of volume via LEDs, plus a remote control.

An ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DAC, typically found in products costing more, is paired with advanced digital technologies including 32-bit HyperStream architecture and a Time Domain Jitter Eliminator, to deliver high dynamic range.

Further features include 3 line-level inputs, preamp and subwoofer outputs, plus a ¼’ headphone output for late night and personal listening.

Fell Disc: budget-friendly CD performance

The Fell Disc CD player is priced at £499, made to integrate with the Fell Amp with a dot matrix display complemented by capacitive-touch controls.

The Fell Disc offers track and album repeat, random play, optional CD information display and a user-friendly remote. Connectivity options include optical and coaxial digital outputs for a range of audio systems, as well as external DACs for future-proof performance.

Central to the Fell Disc is an ESS ES9018 DAC, offering high sound quality for a budget disc player with up to 96 kHz audio. The Fell Disc is compatible with CD, CD-R and CD-RW to allow users to rediscover their lifetime collections.

Matthew Tyson, managing director, said: “After working in audio all my life, it become very apparent that great-sounding hi-fi at affordable prices is no longer being made here in the UK.

“I wanted to change that and be able to offer people something British built that they can start their hi-fi journey with.”

Luke Tyson, project and design lead, added: “Our family has always taken pride in offering great products with excellent service. We’re especially proud to support some of the UK’s best British hi-fi brands and their rich heritage.

“Fell Audio really is our passion project. We wanted to create something we, and our customers, would genuinely want to own without spending thousands—something we can truly be proud of.”
