AV distributor Karma-AV has announced the UK availability of the MoFi Electronics SourcePoint 888 3-way loudspeaker.
The loudspeaker’s driver integrates a twin drive magnet structure, paper pulp cone and concentrically mounted soft dome tweeter, joined by two newly developed 8” woofers to create a 3-way, floor-standing speaker deserving of its name (888).
The additional woofers, positioned beneath the concentric driver, operate below 130Hz to relieve the concentric driver from the task of producing deep bass while allowing it to be optimised for midrange and treble performance.
A 3-way crossover blends the drivers, using chosen frequencies and slopes to minimise the audibility of out-of-band anomalies and to produce smooth on-axis and off-axis responses.
The new woofers employ dual opposing neodymium magnets in a configuration that uses a short coil in a long magnetic gap. The magnetic field is uniform throughout the gap, resulting in linear and controlled cone movement.
Each driver in the SourcePoint 888 operates within individual isolated chambers, the construction adding stiffness to the cabinet to reduce resonances. Two sets of binding posts provide for bi-wire and bi-amp connectivity.
