British high-end audio company KEF has launched the latest generation of its Q Series upgraded with Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) for stereo and multi-channel home theatre.
MAT – eliminating distortion for purer sound
The Q Series integrates MAT, a complex maze-like structure, to elevate the latest 12th generation Uni-Q driver array to new levels of accuracy and clarity. Each of the intricate channels absorbs a specific frequency and, when combined, act as an acoustic black hole to absorb 99% unwanted sound.
The redesign with MAT is found in all eight models comprising the line-up.
Transparent, lifelike and minimalist
The conical waveguide couples the tweeter dome to a metamaterial absorber specially designed for the driver based on its depth, while the re-engineered tweeter gap damper is placed between porous material to tame resonances and imperfections.
Specific models within the range have been upgraded from a 2.5-way to a 3-way speaker design, complementing the Uni-Q driver with a new bass driver dedicated to low frequencies management. These include the Q11 Meta, Q7 Meta, Q Concerto Meta and Q6 Meta.
The speakers have a deliberate minimalist design to blend into any interior, available in satin black, satin white and walnut finishes with carefully selected colour driver units.
Colour-matched grilles complete with magnetic fixing are included with the speakers.
Versatile to curate desired HiFi set up
The Q Series features two 3-way floor-standing models, the Q11 Meta and Q7 Meta, both aiming to provide refined detail and powerful bass. There are also bookshelf speakers available, the three-way bookshelf Q Concerto Meta and classic KEF Concerto 1969 revival, alongside compact Q3 Meta and Q1 Meta models.
The first on-wall speaker in the range, the Q4 Meta, can be used as an LCR (left, centre, right) or surround speaker for a more expansive soundscape without taking up any floorspace.
The Q6 Meta can also be used in an LCR configuration, featuring the same Uni-Q driver as the main speakers and providing tonal match.
The Q8 Meta can be placed upon another main speaker for Dolby Atmos height to bounce sound off the ceiling, as well as becoming a surround-sound speaker when used with its integrated wall mount feature.
The Q Series can be paired with KEF subwoofers to dial up the bass for an immersive listening experience.
