Music system manufacturer, Linn has re-entered the custom install market with the launch of Kustom DSM, a high-performance multi-zone network music player.
Leveraging Linn’s proven DSM streaming technology and packaging it as a flexible, scaleable and easily installed solution, the Kustom DSM delivers Linn quality sound in residential, commercial and marine environments.
“Linn entered the custom installation market 25 years ago with our ground-breaking Knekt multiroom system which set the benchmark for quality in distributed audio systems,” commented Gilad Tiefenbrun, Linn’s managing director.
“Twelve years ago, we started our journey in high resolution digital audio playback with Klimax DS. The result of continuous development in both these areas is Kustom DSM – our first one box, multi-zone DSM player which will deliver transformational musical experiences to every space in an installation at our most competitive price-per-zone yet.”
The company has recently invested in improvements to its manufacturing capabilities at its Glasgow-based factory. Particular investments in surface mount technology has allowed Kustom DSM’s innovative new board design.
Two variants are available and are both housed in a space-conserving 1U high chassis: 2 stream/4 zone that sends two audio streams to a maximum of four different zones, and 4 stream/8 zone that sends four audio streams to a maximum of eight different zones.
The combination of two product variants and the ability to connect multiples together makes Kustom DSM a highly scalable solution to suit installs of any size.
For flexibility when being installed into a smart home, Kustom DSM has drivers for Crestron and Control4. It also works with Linn’s control app, Kazoo, which is available for all main consumer devices, so customers always have a way to control their music close to hand.
Utilising the latest streaming architecture developed for Selekt DSM, the source-only device provides the flexibility to add any choice of amps and speakers throughout the install, following Linn’s ‘Source First’ philosophy to assure the best quality sound.
Each stream has a variety of analogue and digital inputs to enable connection of local sources: HDMI ARC, TOSLINK, SPDIF, and a pair of RCAs. Each zone has a pair of RCA outputs for connection to downstream components.
With unique manufacturing processes, all of Linn’s network music players, including Kustom DSM, are precision-engineered at Linn’s factory, and is hand-built, tested and packaged by just one person who only signs their name to it when they are completely satisfied.
Kustom DSM ships with a five-year warranty. To keep up-to-date with the latest innovations, there will be regular software upgrades.
Offered in a black finish with both brackets for rack mounting and feet for placing on a shelf, the Kustom DSM is available now through all Linn Custom Installation Specialists worldwide.
The Kustom DSM (2 stream/4 zone) is priced at £2,825 and the Kustom DSM (4 stream/8 zone) is priced at £5,650.
