Somfy is bringing a competitive edge to CEDIA Expo 2025 with the launch of its first-ever Motorized Shading Commissioning Contest.
Designed to give systems integrators a hands-on challenge, the event highlights the speed and simplicity of the company’s flagship Sonesse 30 PoE motor.
Across the first two days of the show, participants will race to integrate the PoE-powered shade motor with a Control4 system, testing their skills against the clock. A live leaderboard, prizes, and bragging rights add extra energy, while a dedicated practice station ensures everyone has the chance to familiarise themselves with the process.
The contest is designed to show the benefits of Somfy’s Sonesse PoE range, which delivers power and control over a single Cat5e/Cat6 cable. Available in two sizes - the compact Sonesse 30 PoE and the more powerful Sonesse 40 PoE, with torque ratings up to 6Nm - the motors are designed to reduce wiring complexity, support faster installation, and provide seamless integration with leading home control systems via the Somfy Synergy API. Features include soft start/stop, adjustable speed, and ultra-quiet operation, with the 40 PoE able to handle window sizes up to 13 x 13 feet (approximately 4m x 4m).
CEDIA Expo also sees Somfy expand its portfolio with the debut of the Glydea Ultra 50 WireFree Zigbee Drapery Motor [pictured top]. Powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the wireless solution is designed for both new builds and retrofits where prewiring isn’t an option. It supports drapery styles such as Pinch Pleat, Ripple Fold, and Accordia, accommodates tracks up to 36 ft (approximately 11m), and can traverse fabric loads of up to 110lb (approximately 50kg). Quiet operation and concealed hardware help it blend seamlessly into high-end interiors, while setup is simplified with automatic limit setting and app-based configuration through Somfy’s TaHoma pro app.
