Sonos unveils new Amp Multi, developed ‘with integrators at heart’

Sonos has introduced a multi-channel streaming amplifier aiming to make complex residential audio installations more scalable.

Developed with integrators, the Amp Multi extends Sonos audio into larger homes with open floor plans, mixed-use spaces and evolving design briefs.

Tom Conrad, CEO of Sonos, said: “Sonos Amp is the most widely used two-channel streaming amplifier in residential installations because it’s powerful, dependable and intuitive.

“Amp Multi takes that same philosophy and makes ambitious designs more efficient to build.”

Featuring eight amplified outputs delivering up to125 watts each alongside four configurable zones, Amp Multi allows professionals to design systems precisely around their customer’s lifestyle.

To this end, the amplifier introduces a new manual sound optimisation tool that gives integrators control over elements like 10-band parametric EQ, gain, width control and delay offset. These tools look to refine sound for speaker placement and room geometry, while app setting ‘Optimise Sonos Speakers’ delivers detailed DSP profiles for Sonos Architectural speakers.

Chris Heintzelman, vice president of product at Sonos, added: “We created Amp Multi with integrators at the heart of every decision.

“This is about giving professionals more control while keeping the system approachable for the people who live with it every day.”

Amp Multi combines Sonos’ streaming platform and ecosystem with a design built on professional workflows: outputs can be assigned to any zone, systems can scale by adding units as needed, and high speaker counts can be driven without losing stability/sound quality.

Each output supports up to three Sonos Architectural speakers (24 in total), enabling dense installations across multiple rooms or spaces.

At the hardware level, Amp Multi uses a GaN power architecture paired with Class-D post-filter feedback to deliver controlled sound and thermal efficiency; this allows the system to operate silently without fans and remain stable over long periods of use.

The Sonos app also enables integrators to manage zones, sources and outputs more efficiently.
